UAE National Lottery Authority Issues Warning Against Illegal Operators Ahead of First National Draw

Abu Dhabi, UAE – As the UAE gears up for the first-ever National Lottery draw on Saturday, December 14, the Federal Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) has warned against engaging with unlicensed lottery and gaming operators. The GCGRA reiterated that The Game LLC is the sole licensed entity to operate the UAE National Lottery.

The Game LLC Holds Exclusive Rights

In July 2024, The Game LLC was officially awarded the exclusive license to run the UAE National Lottery. Tickets for the inaugural draw, aptly titled “Lucky Day,” went on sale on November 27, offering a staggering grand prize of AED 100 million.

Under the regulatory framework established by the GCGRA, only two other lotteries are permitted to operate in the UAE: Big Ticket, based at Abu Dhabi International Airport, and Dubai Duty Free. All other lottery services have been mandated to cease operations.

Impact on Former Lottery Operators

Prominent operators such as Mahzooz and Emirates Draw ended their UAE activities on January 1, 2024, following directives from the GCGRA. Mahzooz has announced plans to venture into new gaming sectors, while Emirates Draw is exploring licenses in alternative business areas.

Risks of Engaging with Illegal Operators

The GCGRA highlighted the dangers of interacting with unlicensed lottery services, including:

  • Financial losses;
  • Fraudulent activities, including theft of personal information;
  • Exposure to cyber threats such as malware or phishing attacks;
  • Potential involvement in legal or regulatory investigations.

Kevin Mullally, Director General of the GCGRA, emphasized:
“Adhering to the law safeguards your personal and financial security while upholding the integrity of our community. If you choose to participate, only play with licensed operators.”

The GCGRA also cautioned businesses, including advertisers and payment providers, against collaborating with unlicensed operators, warning of potential penalties.

Commitment to Compliance and Consumer Protection

The GCGRA underscored the importance of choosing licensed operators committed to stringent consumer protection and data security standards. The upcoming “Lucky Day” draw not only marks a milestone for the UAE National Lottery but also sets a precedent for a regulated and secure gaming industry in the country.
