Regulatory Response

Tabcorp has since informed ACMA of new measures implemented to prevent future breaches. Despite these steps, ACMA member Carolyn Lidgerwood expressed concern over the six-month delay in addressing the issue.

“The ban on online in-play betting protects vulnerable people. It is concerning that a major operator like Tabcorp took so long to resolve this issue,” Lidgerwood stated. She highlighted the rapid growth of online sports betting and the importance of robust compliance systems.

Seven Gambling Websites Blocked

In a separate action, ACMA directed Australian internet service providers to block seven illegal gambling websites, including MyEmpire, Pokienations, RollXO, and others. Since 2019, ACMA has blocked 1,086 illegal sites and enforced measures that have prompted over 220 offshore gambling services to exit the Australian market.

The latest actions underline ACMA’s commitment to ensuring compliance with the Interactive Gambling Act and protecting Australian consumers from illegal gambling services.
